When relationships break down parents often find it difficult to make arrangements for keeping in contact, especially if they do not want to see each other or if one parent has nowhere suitable to take the children. In these circumstances, children may lose contact with one parent. Research has shown that emotional damage to children can be avoided if contact is maintained with both parents. A contact centre is a place where the non-resident parent may spend time with their children in a safe, friendly and neutral atmosphere.
Please note that this service is a temporary arrangement until a more viable alternative is decided on.
The Contact Centre is open from 2:30 to 4:30 pm every Saturday afternoon but contact is on alternate Saturdays allowing us to accommodate more families.
The resident parent arrives with the children and goes through the car park to the main reception area. Non-resident parent goes to the house on Chevallier Street but must find alternative parking. The children are taken to the house by a volunteer once their contact parent has arrived. The resident parent is free to stay or leave and return by 4:30. The children are taken back to the resident parent who then leaves with the children. The non-resident parent leaves after helping the volunteers tidy up and put the toys, etc away.
